On Saturday February 6, 2010, at the Credit Union's newest branch at 325 Central Parkway West and Confederation Parkway, the official draw for the CYS (Child-Youth-Student Account) Win Cash Contest was held with close to 150 members in attendance just days prior to the branch’s one year anniversary.

Running from September 1, 2009 through to January 31, 2010, the purpose of the contest was to attract younger members to the Credit Union and to communicate the free and unlimited features of the CYS Account.

"We are very pleased with how many new younger members have joined our Credit Union by opening new CYS accounts as a result of this very successful campaign" stated Halina Marszalek McGregor, Credit Union Chief Executive Officer. "In fact", she added, "234 new accounts were opened."

The CYS Account is a specially designed savings account that pays a premium rate of interest, and offers free and unlimited day to day transactions for younger Credit Union members. As the child member gets older, account features and benefits increase to keep pace with the changing financial needs of the account holder.

The CYS Account Contest featured 4 draws for $250.00 each for those who referred a new CYS Account member and a $1,000 prize for one lucky individual who opened a new CYS Account.

Members attending enjoyed soft drinks; coffee; pizza, and of course paczki while regular draws for numerous door prizes worth $50.00 each were held prior to the grand prize draws.

Special thanks to Ilona Girzewska from Peter Mielzynski Agencies who kept our youngest members occupied with fun, movies and games while numerous seminar presentations and discussions for students were hosted by Branch Managers throughout the morning.

Regional Manager West, Lucyna Jankowicz handled Master of Ceremonies duties and kept members engaged with trivia questions on Polish and Credit Union related topics. Members with first and correct answers were rewarded with special Credit Union giveaways.

Finally, at 1:00 p.m., the big moment of the draws arrived with Credit Union Directors Elzbieta Morgan and Peter Mazurkiewicz presiding over the festivities.

Also announced at the event was the Credit Union sponsorship of the Canadian Chopin Festival 2010. To be held Friday February 26 to Sunday March 7, 2010, the festival takes place in recognition on the 200^th anniversary of the birth of Chopin and is being held at the John Paul II Polish Cultural Centre in Mississauga. The winner’s Gala Concert is being held at the new Koermer Concert Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music on Sunday March 7, 2010. The festival features lectures, master classes and workshops and Canada’s best young pianists reaching the world stage through the music of Fryderyk Chopin at this 3rd Canadian Chopin Piano Competition. The Credit Union was very pleased to have a number of representatives of Polish Canadian Youth / Student organizations in attendance. These included Michal Skiba, Sponsorship Coordinator for PISK (Polska Inicjatywa Studentow w Kanadzie - pisk.ca), and Roman Jaszczynski, PISK Event Coordinator.

As well, Martin Grzadka from the Young Polish Canadian Professionals Association was present. Watch Polish Studio on Saturday February 13 to see interviews with both of these dynamic and progressive youth / student organizations.
